A high-level meeting held in Accra has reaffirmed Ghana’s backing for the Africa Economic Forum (AEF), as leaders push to strengthen the continent’s role in the global economy.
The strategic engagement brought together key figures from the Forum’s leadership and advisory bodies to review its direction and explore ways to expand its influence as a platform for investment, policy dialogue and regional cooperation.
Among those present were former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who serves on the Forum’s Strategic Advisory Board; former Minister Akwasi Opong-Fosu, also a board member and Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre; and Abraham Dwuma Odoom, a former Deputy Minister of Health, Member of Parliament and Executive Board Member of the Forum.
Discussions centred on sharpening the Forum’s strategic focus, strengthening partnerships and accelerating efforts to position it as a leading platform for economic engagement across Africa.
The meeting also highlighted Ghana’s continued role in advancing Pan-African ideals and shaping conversations around the continent’s economic future. As one of the historic centres of Pan-African thought, Ghana’s involvement was described as both symbolic and practical in driving collaboration and integration.
A spokesperson for the Forum said the continent’s future must be shaped through strong leadership, coordinated action and effective institutions.
“The future of Africa must be defined by Africans—through strong institutions, bold leadership, and strategic cooperation,” the spokesperson said, adding that the Forum aims to turn that vision into practical outcomes by promoting investment, aligning policy and building partnerships.
The Africa Economic Forum continues to position itself as a platform that connects the continent to global opportunities, while ensuring Africa plays an active role in shaping the evolving global economic landscape.
The Forum brings together leaders from government, business, finance and civil society to promote economic cooperation, investment and sustainable development across Africa.
