Scottie Scheffler is an American professional golfer widely considered the most dominant player of his generation, rivaling the consistency of Tiger Woods. He gained public attention for winning the Masters Tournament twice (2022, 2024), capturing a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and being named PGA Tour Player of the Year for four consecutive seasons (2022–2025).

Quick Facts

Full Name: Scott Alexander Scheffler
Age: 29 (born June 21, 1996)
Nationality: American
Occupation: Professional Golfer
Known For: Four major championships; 23 worldwide wins; No. 1 ranked player in the world
Marital Status: Married to Meredith Scudder
Children: Two sons Bennett (born May 2024) and Remy (born March 2026)

Early Life and Background

Scheffler was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, but moved to Dallas, Texas, with his family at age six. His parents took out a loan to join the Royal Oaks Country Club and enlisted veteran instructor Randy Smith, who remains his coach more than two decades later. He attended Highland Park High School in Dallas, winning three individual state golf championships (2012–2014) while also playing basketball. He played collegiate golf at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was named NCAA Division I Freshman of the Year in 2015 and graduated with a degree in finance in 2018.

Career and Achievements

Scheffler turned professional in 2018 and spent his first year on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he was named Player of the Year after winning two events . He won PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors in 2020 after logging six top-five finishes.

His first PGA Tour win came at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, and he captured his first major at the Masters Tournament just weeks later, becoming world No. 1 for the first time. Scheffler’s historic 2024 season saw him win seven PGA Tour events the biggest one-year total since Tiger Woods won seven in 2007 including a second Masters title and an Olympic gold medal in Paris . In 2025, he added two more majors, winning the PGA Championship and the British Open, bringing his major total to four . He has been named PGA Tour Player of the Year for four consecutive seasons (2022–2025), matching another feat last achieved by Woods.

Scheffler has 23 worldwide wins, including four majors: Masters (2022, 2024), PGA Championship (2025), and British Open (2025).

Major Event or Controversy

In May 2024, Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, before the second round of the PGA Championship. Traffic had been halted due to a fatal pedestrian accident when Scheffler attempted to drive around the scene. He was charged with four counts, including felony second-degree assault of a police officer. All charges were later dropped after prosecutors determined there was insufficient evidence, with the Jefferson County Attorney calling the incident a “big misunderstanding”. Scheffler expressed condolences to the family of the pedestrian killed and said he held “no ill will” toward the officer involved.

Why He Is In the News

Scheffler is currently trending after the first round of the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink, where he described the pin locations as the hardest he has seen since joining the PGA Tour. Despite shooting a 1-over 71 on Friday, the world No. 1 remains in contention to defend his title. “Most of the pins today were, I mean, kind of absurd,” Scheffler told reporters, singling out the par-3 14th hole as having “literally just like a spine” with the pin “right on top of it”. He made clear, however, that the setup was not unfair just extremely challenging.

Conclusion

Scottie Scheffler is the most consistent golfer of his era, with four major championships, an Olympic gold medal, and a historic streak of Player of the Year awards to his name. As he chases his second straight PGA Championship title in 2026, his candid assessment of the course setup has added intrigue to a major where even the world’s best are being tested.
