The Deputy Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s pension system through reforms aimed at improving adequacy, sustainability, coverage and value for contributors and pensioners.

Speaking at the launch of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Member Value Programme (MVP) in Accra, Mr. Ampem said Ghana’s improving economic conditions provide a strong foundation for building a sustainable pension system.

According to him, the country’s economy has regained stability, growth has strengthened, inflation has declined significantly, investor confidence is returning, and the macroeconomic fundamentals continue to improve as a result of government reforms.

He stressed that a stable economy is essential for a sustainable pension system, adding that a strong pension scheme also supports economic growth by mobilising domestic savings and financing investment.

Mr. Ampem disclosed that SSNIT currently serves more than 2.1 million active contributors and over 260,000 pensioners, describing every contribution as an act of trust and every pension payment as a promise earned.

He said the SSNIT Member Value Programme extends benefits to contributors and pensioners beyond retirement by providing access to a range of products and services through partnerships with businesses.

Director-General of SSNIT, Kwesi Afreh Biney, said the Member Value Programme forms part of efforts to enhance the value of social security by offering members additional benefits beyond their monthly pension payments.
