The band rose to prominence in the early 1980s with a string of critically acclaimed albums, including Crocodiles (1980), Heaven Up Here (1981), and Porcupine (1983). Their commercial breakthrough came with the 1984 album Ocean Rain, which featured their signature track “The Killing Moon” .

Other major hits include “Lips Like Sugar,” “The Cutter,” and “Bring on the Dancing Horses.” Their music was prominently featured in film soundtracks such as The Lost Boys (their cover of The Doors’ “People Are Strange”), Donnie Darko (“The Killing Moon”), and Pretty in Pink (“Bring on the Dancing Horses”) .

McCulloch left the band for a solo career in 1988 but officially rejoined in 1996. He has released four solo albums and also performed with Sergeant in the side project Electrafixion. The band released its twelfth studio album, Meteorite, in 2014 . They are currently on a 1978-2026 “More Songs to Learn and Sing” tour, celebrating their enduring catalog .
